WELLINGTON NORTH COUNCIL INTRODUCES PROGRAM TO RECOGNIZE OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENTS IN SPORTS

TOWNSHIP OF WELLINGTON NORTH – The Township of Wellington North is home to countless athletes who achieve success in their respective sports, and Wellington North Council wishes to recognize these achievements through the introduction of the Recognition of Outstanding Sports Achievements Program.

The program will give Council an opportunity to recognize sports teams based in Wellington North, or athletes who are residents of Wellington North, who have won a championship or award at a provincial, national or international level (example: a Rep hockey team winning an OMHA Championship) or have achieved the highest championship or award possible in their sport (example: a Local League hockey team wins a WOAA Championship).

Teams chosen to be recognized will be invited to a Council meeting, where they will be presented with a certificate signed by the Mayor, have their photo taken with Council to be shared with the community on social media and local media outlets, and be recognized for their accomplishments in a public forum.

“The Township of Wellington North is home to several successful athletes and sports teams, and they represent our Township positively beyond our borders,” said Mayor Andy Lennox. “Council, staff and residents of Wellington North are proud of the accomplishments of our local athletes, and we look forward to recognizing them through the Township’s Recognition of Outstanding Sports Achievements Program.”

The policy outlining the criteria of the program, as well as an application form to recommend teams and athletes for recognition, can be found on the Township’s website at https://www.wellington-north.com/government/permits-licences/recognition-outstanding-sports-achievements-policy
