Are you interested in working at the Pool as a Lifeguard/Instructor? The Township of Wellington North accepts applications from certified individuals that are 16 years of age or older, for our pool operations. Seasonal positions are typically posted on the township website in January of each year.

Step 4/5: Successfully complete the Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor CourseLifeguarding is an exciting and rewarding job that carries great responsibility. Guards take courses and train hard for events they hope will never happen and which they work hard to prevent.
National Lifeguard - Pool certification is Canada's professional lifeguard standard. National Lifeguard training develops a sound understanding of lifeguarding principles, good judgment, and a mature and responsible attitude towards the lifeguard's role. National Lifeguard training emphasizes prevention and effective rescue response in emergencies including first aid treatment. Candidates develop teamwork, leadership and communication skills. Fitness requirements include a timed object recovery, 50 m sprint challenge, 50 m rescue drill and 400 m endurance challenge.
Prerequisites: minimum 15 years of age, Bronze Cross, and Lifesaving Society Standard First Aid (need not be current) or Standard First Aid from one of these approved agencies.

Step 4/5: Successfully complete the Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor CourseThe Lifesaving Society Swim Instructor course prepares the instructor to teach and evaluate the swimming strokes and related skills found in the Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program. Candidates acquire proven teaching methods, planning skills, and a variety of stroke development drills and correction techniques.
Prerequisites: 15 years of age by the end of the course; Bronze Cross certification (need not be current).
Swim Instructor course: 20 hr. stand-alone course (40 hr. when combined with a Lifesaving Instructor course). This checklist identifies the learning outcomes that you must achieve in order to be successful on the course.
When hired on as a Lifeguard/Instructor with the Township of Wellington North, individuals will receive a competitive hourly wage, a bathing suit and sweater as part of their uniform.
In addition, new lifeguard/instructors will receive a reimbursement of 50% of costs associated with becoming qualified. Existing lifeguard/instructors that recertify their qualifications will receive 100% reimbursement of their costs.
