Municipal Drains

A municipal drain is a system to move water. The municipality is responsible for the construction of the drainage system and future maintenance and repair. Costs may be recovered from the property owners in the watershed of the drain. Drainage is generally a private matter between property owners.  A municipality only intervenes if the drain in question is a municipal drain, petitioned under the Drainage Act and created under a municipal by-law.
