Protect yourself against hiring unsolicited door-to-door paving contractors. These are often companies using cheap materials or demanding upfront cash. Before entering into a contract, demand to see their business license from Wellington North, liability insurance, WSIB coverage and three local references from the past year.
Ask the following questions to vet their legitimacy and prevent getting scammed:
- What is your company's physical address and website?
- Ask for a certificate of insurance. If they damage your property or municipal property (like a water valve), you could be held liable.
- WSIB Coverage for their employees: without that, if their employee is injured on your property, they can make a claim under your homeowners insurance policy.
- Provide a written contract outlining the scope of work and warranty.

Wellington North currently has not issued any business licenses to permit door to door solicitation in 2026. If someone comes to your house, please get the name and phone number of the company and report it to the municipality at township@wellington-north.com or 519-848-3620
