WELLINGTON NORTH – Council welcomed 15 Wellington North athletes to its meeting on Monday, June 22 to recognize them on their recent athletic accomplishments and for being positive ambassadors of the community.
All athletes were presented with a certificate of congratulations by Mayor Andy Lennox.
“On behalf of Council, staff and the residents Wellington North, I want to extend my congratulations to these outstanding athletes,” said Mayor Lennox. “Your dedication, perseverance, and exceptional achievements are a great source of pride for our community. Beyond your accomplishments in competition, you represent Wellington North with integrity, sportsmanship, and enthusiasm.”
Mayor Lennox also commended the guardians, coaches, friends and family of the athletes for all they do in supporting these athletes in their sporting pursuits.
“Your encouragement, time and commitment to these athletes plays an essential role in their success, and your support helps nurture not only outstanding athletes, but confident and community-minded individuals," said Mayor Lennox. “Wellington North is fortunate to have such a strong network of support shaping the next generation.”

Wellington Heights Secondary School Special Olympics Bocce Team
The Wellington Heights Special Olympics Bocce Team competed in the 2026 Special Olympics Ontario School Championships from May 26-28 in London, where they won the silver medal.
Team members include Austin LaCombe, Macey McDermott, Nick Duxbury, Noah Schlosser, Savannah Copland and Wyatt Smaglinski.

Kaden Fraser and Faith Wilde
Representing Wellington Heights Secondary School in Track and Field at the 2026 Special Olympics Ontario School Championships, where they competed as a group of two athletes, Fraser and Wilde won the gold medal in the standing long jump, silver in shotput, bronze in the 200-metre, and fourth in the 100-metre race.
Jason Davidson and Hannah Rundle
Representing Wellington Heights Secondary School in Track and Field at the 2026 Special Olympics Ontario School Championships, where they competed as a group of two athletes, Davidson and Rundle won the gold medal in shotput, silver medals in standing long jump and the 200-metre, and bronze in the 100-metre race.

Kennedy Ray
Representing RISE Combat and Fitness in Mount Forest, Ray won the 2026 World Association of Kickboxing Organizations (WAKO) Canada National Championship in the Junior B Female Kick-Light Kickboxing Under 50kg division.
Kieran Romanowski
Representing RISE Combat and Fitness in Mount Forest, Romanowski won the 2026 WAKO Canada National Championship in the Junior B Male Kick-Light Kickboxing 57kg division.
Logan Brookes
Representing RISE Combat and Fitness in Mount Forest, Brookes won the silver medal at the 2026 WAKO Canada National Championship in the Junior B Male Kick-Light Kickboxing +69kg division.
Thomas Rushton
Representing RISE Combat and Fitness in Mount Forest, Rushton won the silver medal at the 2026 WAKO Canada National Championship in the Intermediate Male Kick-Light Kickboxing 60kg Novice division.
Taylor Krueger
Fighting out of Golden Tiger Gym in Hanover, Krueger won the 2026 WAKO Canada National Championship in the Junior B Female Kick-Light Kickboxing Under 65kg division.
Ray, Romanowski, Brookes, Rushton and Krueger have also been selected to represent Team Canada at the upcoming 2026 World Junior Kickboxing Championships in Venice, Italy in September.
