MOUNT FOREST – The Township of Wellington North will be hosting a Public Information Centre (PIC) on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, for residents, businesses and stakeholders to learn more about the upcoming Main Street (Highway 6) Connecting Link Rehabilitation Project, between Queen Street and Sligo Road.

The PIC will be held at the Mount Forest Fire Station (381 Main St. N., Mount Forest) from 5-7 p.m. The PIC will be an open house format, with contractor Cox Construction, consulting engineer B.M. Ross and Associates, and key Township staff members present to display project drawings and answer any public questions.

The scope of work for the project includes select replacement of sewers and watermain, repairs to curb and sidewalk, upgrading of intersection curb/sidewalk to meet Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements, upgrade to traffic controllers at Sligo and Wellington intersections, installation of curb extension and a Pedestrian Cross-over (PXO) at King Street, and the full resurfacing of the existing pavement.

Main Street will remain open to through traffic at all times, but there will be temporary lane closures that will interrupt the flow of traffic and parking.  Surface asphalt milling and surface paving operations will be taking place at nighttime between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

At this time, the construction schedule has not yet been determined but work may start as early as July 21 and is expected to be completed by October 3.

The estimated cost of the project is $2,007,000 inclusive of net HST, with up to $1,486,539.90 being funded by the Province of Ontario through the 2025-26 Connecting Links Program.
