Media Release: Murphy Park reopens following temporary closure

MOUNT FOREST — The Township of Wellington north is pleased to announce that Murphy Park has officially reopened following a brief closure related to public safety concerns.

Murphy Park in Mount Forest was closed on Friday, October 17 as a precautionary measure after avian influenza was detected in nearby commercial bird flocks.

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health does not have any concerns about Murphy Park reopening and welcoming visitors once again. We appreciate the community’s support in helping us maintain healthy and enjoyable public spaces.

We thank residents for their patience and cooperation during this time.

While the nearby case of avian influenza poses low risk to humans, the Township continues to encourage residents to remain vigilant:

  • Avoid contact with dead or sick wild birds.
  • Keep pets and children away from affected wildlife.
  • Report sightings to the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative (CWHC) at
    1-800-567-2033 or https://www.cwhc-rcsf.ca.
