Tourism & Attractions

Wellington North invites you to explore our township of country village communities with that small town charm.  Quaint shops, local bakeries, artisan studios, antiques, unique crafts and Bed & Breakfasts are set amid heritage homes, historical building architecture and the Victorian facades of our main streets.

Along our back roads visitors will find farm gate sales of fresh produce, honey, flowers, maple syrup and dairy products.   More than a dozen different varieties of Butter Tarts can be found along our unique Butter Tart Trail™ which guides visitors to bakeries, dairies, markets and produce outlets, and a variety of unique shops.

Set amidst a backdrop of natural scenic beauty, Wellington North also hosts a wide range of activities for the outdoor enthusiast including Walking Tours, Cycling Tours and Moon Walks, as well as our Birding Trail.  In addition, the Luther Marsh is a core of wetland habitats that make up the largest "core area" of primarily natural habitat in the watershed.

During the spring and summer months we welcome you to Simply Explore Wellington North with nature hikes and bird watching with our Birding Trail Map.  Spring is also Maple Syrup time, be sure to treat your taste buds to specialties made from this historically Canadian resource.  The Mount Forest Home & Leisure Show April 25th and 26th as well as the Saugeen Fur & Feather Show April 26th are not-to-be-missed events as is the Arthur Rubber Duck Race, May 9th.

Summer in the Township also features our Butter Tart Trail ™ Season Launch on July 4th with expanded events and activities every year.  July 17, 18 and 19th is the 9th Annual Fireworks Festival in Mount Forest, winner of Festivals and Events Ontario’s prestigious “Top 100 Festival” for two consecutive years.

Wellington North is proud of our rural heritage as evidenced by numerous events and activities celebrating the harvest.  The Agricultural Societies in both Mount Forest and Arthur host annual Fall Fairs.  2009 marks the 150th Anniversary of the Mount Forest Fall Fair with many events planned to celebrate this milestone.

Winter in Wellington North features recreational activities from cross-country skiing to snowmobiling and we are the only Township in Ontario with two night time Christmas Parades, all lit up for the holidays.  In addition we have Tree Lighting Ceremonies and special Christmas Promotions to mark the season.  This year we also have the Olympic Torch Relay coming through. In addition, there are numerous free skates throughout the Township as well as special Moon Walks.
