EXPLORE WELLINGTON NORTH
No matter the time of year, there is something for everyone
Year-round Recreational Facilities and Programs offer activities for all age groups and interests in addition to a wide range of other activities. In addition, our Simply Explore Brochure which includes our famous Butter Tart TrailTM is a year-round tour of unique shops, bakeries, markets, artisan studios and antique stores and along scenic back roads for farm gate sales of fresh produce, meat and specialty dairy products. Butter tarts can be found at many of the merchants along the trail, in fact over a dozen varieties of butter tarts can be found and you will be tempted to try them all!
Winter in the township features recreational activities from cross-country skiing to snowmobiling and we are the only township in Ontario with two night time santa claus parades, all lit up for the holidays. In addition there are tree lighting ceremonies and special Christmas promotions to mark the season. As part of the celebration for the Vancouver 2010 Olympics, the Olympic Torch Relay will be coming through Mount Forest. In addition, there are numerous free skates throughout the township as well as special Moon Walks.
During the spring months we welcome you to explore Wellington North with nature hikes and bird watching with our Birding Trail Map. Spring is also maple syrup time, be sure to treat your taste buds to specialties made from this historically Canadian resource. Spring also hosts the Mount Forest Home & Leisure Show, Saugeen Fur & Feather Show, Annual Trillium Run and not-to-be-missed Arthur Rubber Duck Race.
Wellington North in the summer is a perfect haven for the outdoor enthusiast including our self-guided walking tours and cycling tours. In addition, the Luther Marsh is a core of wetland habitats that make up the largest "core area" of primarily natural habitat in the watershed. July in the township also features the spectacular Mount Forest Fireworks Festival, winner of Festivals and Events Ontario’s prestigious “Top 100 Festival” for two consecutive years.
Wellington North is proud of our rural heritage as evidenced by numerous events and activities celebrating the harvest. The Agricultural Societies in both communities of Mount Forest and Arthur host annual fall fairs.
